Mental Health Awareness (14-20 May 2018)
Published 25th May 2018
There is a darkness within us all.
To know happiness, we must have experienced sadness.
To feel joy, we must have felt despair.
To be positive, we must understand negativity.
Mental health issues can affect everyone, at any time. You don’t need to experience a tragedy to feel depression or anxiety. It can be underlying in all of us, just waiting to surface, however briefly or intensely at some point. No one is immune. Even the most uplifting, positive people can feel it sometimes.
The Chinese principles of Yin and Yang give some explanation about how opposites are fundamentally linked. They cannot exist without each other. Extreme Yin transforms into Yang and extreme Yang transforms into Yin. For example, the night is darkest just at the point in which light begins to emerge.
To remain physically and mentally healthy, it is important that we strive to achieve a balance in our lives.
If you are feeling like you have not quite achieved a balance, please ask for help. Maybe text a friend and ask for a chat. Book a yoga class or go for a walk. You don’t have to be really struggling to be worthy of asking for support. It is not self-indulgent. Everyone around you benefits if you are feeling balanced.
